TV/NEWS
I have extensive television experience in news, having worked on producing and directing broadcasts, managing control room operations, and developing engaging news segments as part of a student-run news organization.
Channel 8 News at Kansas State University is a student-run organization that produces a weekly local newscast, focusing on delivering comprehensive coverage of news, weather, and sports within the campus and surrounding communities. This program has provided myself as well as other students with opportunities to engage in journalism and broadcasting, regardless of prior experience, through both curriculum-based and practicum-based settings. The mission that I have helped teach students in Channel 8 News is to educate and guide aspiring journalists in delivering fair, ethical, and balanced news coverage, fostering a deeper understanding of media production and reporting standards.
The projects undertaken by Channel 8 News extend beyond traditional newscasts, offering students hands-on experience in various aspects of media production. Students are involved in all stages of the broadcast process, from researching and writing stories to operating cameras and editing footage. This immersive environment allows them to develop practical skills that are essential for careers in media and communications. Through these projects, Channel 8 News not only serves as a vital news source for the K-State community but also as a training ground for future media professionals, emphasizing the importance of ethical journalism and effective storytelling.
